Directions for Students: Navigating Your Nursing Quest
Welcome, Nursing Quest Adventurer! Your Compass is more than a map—it's your personal guide for every challenge you’ll face in school, clinicals, or exams. Here’s how to use it on any part of your journey:
1. Start Your Quest: Set the Scene
At the center of your Compass, write the patient scenario, concept, or challenge you’re facing.
Think of this as an across the room assessment or chapter overview.
2. Navigate the Compass Points
North (Notice & Navigate):
What stands out first? What are the important cues or details?
Identify a clinical pathway or link signs/symptoms together. This is the connect the dots moment!
East (Explore & Evaluate):
What options or possible outcomes do you see? How will you know you’re on the right path?
What is your nurse gut telling you?
South (Strategize & Solve):
What actions, interventions, or strategies will you use to move forward?
Identify your care team (i.e. RN, LPN/LVN, CNA, Physician, etc…)
Think about how the care team could contribute.
Safe Client Care Considerations
West (Wisdom & Write-Back):
What did you learn? What advice would you give yourself or a peer for next time?
How did the client respond to the nursing intervention?
3. Draw Your Journey
Use arrows or lines to show how your thinking flows between compass points. Sometimes you’ll circle back—just like in real nursing! This Compass is designed for micro-learning—helping you quickly connect textbook facts to real-world nursing wisdom. Use it as a fast, interactive study tool to bridge knowledge and practical understanding on your Nursing Quest.
4. Apply Anywhere on Your Nursing Quest
Use your Compass for:
Clinical scenarios & simulations
Exam prep & study sessions
Reflecting on challenging client care moments
Planning projects or capstone work
5. Reflect, Empower, Elevate
After each Quest, review your Compass. Celebrate what you did well and plan how to level up for next time!
